The recently appointed president at Georgia's Brewton-Parker College made a surprise announcement at the 2014 Alumni Weekend ceremonies held on the main campus in Mount Vernon, Georgia April 25-26. In his comments, Dr. Ergun Caner began reading from 2 Chronicles 20 the context of which is Jehosophat's war against Ammon and Moab. Verses 22-23 especially were significant:
"When they began singing and praising, the LORD aset ambushes against the sons of Ammon, Moab and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah; so they were routed. For the sons of Ammon and Moab rose up against the inhabitants of Mount Seir destroying them completely; and when they had finished with the inhabitants of Seir, they helped to destroy one another."
Afterward, Dr. Caner announced the reopening of the music school with the weekend attendees responding with a standing ovation. In addition, Caner announced the hiring of the first full time professor under his watch as President of Brewton-Parker College--Dr. David Wilson. Dr. Wilson holds a Doctor of Educational Ministry degree from the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary as well as a Master of Church Music degree from the same institution. Dr. Wilson also is an alumnus of Brewton-Parker College.
Hildegard and I were members of the same church not too many years ago. Beloved by her many music alums.

This is awesome. An actual "Music School". Excellent.
I have a prediction. Organs are going to make a comeback. In the future some cool hip young pastors are going to discover this magnificent instrument that produces a majestic sound. They are going to insist that the bongo drums are out and organs are in. Question is, can they find one?
Of course I am biased because my mum was an organist. But can you really Handel Messiah properly without one? :o)

In the new SBC, looks like displaced and non-preferred state baptist institutions are doing constructive rather than destructive work.
Congratulations Dr. Caner and Brewton. You go.
