A school shooting took the life of a student on an off-campus dorm. Reports NBC news:
A campus security officer shot and killed a male college student at an off-campus women's dormitory Tuesday in Lynchburg, Va., after the student attacked him with a hammer, authorities said.
The student, identified as Joshua Hathaway, 19, of Lubbock, Texas, a freshman at Liberty University, told the security officer about 4:15 a.m. that someone had stolen his car, police said in a search warrant affidavit filed in Lynchburg District Court and provided by the university.
Jerry Falwell, Jr.’s reportedly responded:
"It's events like this where we feel like it's our duty as a Christian university to pull together and to support everybody as much as possible," he said. "That's what our focus has been all day today and will continue to be throughout this ordeal."
Liberty Student News also reports on the tragedy.
May our Lord's guidance and grace be with the administrators, student body, and family members during this uneasy time.
Should we believe the police report that the student attacked with a hammer?

We know Joshua is not here to tell his side of the story so we will never know for sure what happened. There are many questions that remain unanswered to me as a parent of a 19 year old. Why is there no security camera protecting this area? Is there training for security guards to handle situations such as this with the ability to deescalate a hostile situation? Did this security person have mace, pepper spray or a tazer? As a believer in the least amount of force, could there be other options for security in the future? My deepest sympathy and prayers go out to the family, may God wrap his loving arms around you and keep you in peace. I pray you carry the memory of his life in your hearts as you knew him and not make what is happening now a defining point of his life.
