Peter,

First, I like the format. Notwithstanding having to look at your mug (totally tongue in cheek), it made it very easy to get this post to be able to listen to it as I was driving at the time. I realize it might not be the best for all or maybe even for most posts. But still, very good.

As to the book itself, I missed the deadline to get mine ordered at the 1/2 price. Oh well. I'm looking forward to getting it and reading it. And, I look forward to seeing what you have to say about it. No doubt the debate will rage on.

Grace,

Les

I had trouble with sound. Going to try it on iphone.

Sorry about the audio. I've had other feedback on it. So, it is not just you. I'll attempt to fix that on the next video.

Peter I must say that though I do not care for the format due it taking so much time to listen to (whereas reading would have only taken a couple of minutes), I certainly appreciate the fact that I was able to hear you communicate your point/convictions/concerns not through the written word but through both verbal communication and non verbal communication such as voice inflections, tone, body position etc...
That said, I am now better able to understand where you are coming from on your blog. That being so, you have gained a level of confidence from me. So kudos!
Now if we who respond on your blog could do so in like fashion it would create a level of accountability because we (all who respond) then would not be able to hide behind our keyboards. This, I think, would cause the overflow of our hearts to be made clearer. Thus we would have clearer, more precise and God honoring conversation.
Oh well... maybe this will be made available in the future.

I genuinely appreciate the feedback. And, thank you for the encouragement. You're exactly right: at times the written word may get in the way of discerning true tone and certainly correct attitude as the backdrop for what's actually stated. The downside may be a loss of accuracy concerning which I try to maintain at a high level even though I rarely achieve my benchmark. Spontaneous speech inevitably produces more generalizations, thus leaving open ended or virtually absolute assertions which is the critic's morning cup of coffee!

However, the personality pushing the message, if perceived as "likeable" or at least as a "genuine" type person, can potentially solicit more grace from folk on the other end of the issue. Hence, less unnecessary banter and more understanding. All theory, of course :^) ...

Grace, brother.

Yes you are exactly right. I could not have stated that better. I too am for accuracy - heck isn't that one of the things that Calvinists think they are marked by? :^) As far as likeablility (is that a word?) is concerned, I really cant say the video made me like you any better. ;) However, I do appreciate the fact that, at least for now, when I read what you have to say, I will be more inclined to sift it through a different filter.

Interestingly, I and a friend of mine--a friend who happens to be a flaming five-pointer (for real!)--talk almost every weekday on the phone. Sometimes we talk theology and sometimes we don't. When we do, it's always respectful. But the key for us is the likeability factor. I like him whether or not he ever either gets a point I might make or accepts it even if he gets it. I think vice versa with him. There is more to each of us than the soteriological factor. In fact I tell him often I appreciate our friendship whether or not he ever embraces a proper understanding of Scripture (but not as much as he tells me! :^)
