My life has been in a whirlwind for several days. My oldest living brother passed away during Passion Week. Then my wife was hospitalized for several days pre/post an intense surgery she had scheduled. Consequently, it now appears we face several months where our "normal routine" is, shall we say, out the window.
Know our closer circle was very much aware. Our church is continuing to minister and support us. Neither Kathy nor I have any discouraging complaints to offer our Lord. He is more gracious to us than ever we deserve. He's always been that way to us I must confess.
Just a couple of things:
First, the scorched earth strategy of those who apparently despise Ergun Caner and, to a lessor but nonetheless serious extent, Emir Caner, is in full strategic action. They simply will not let this man alone. Now his eleven year old son is receiving messages on his facebook page with links to critical articles about his "deceptive daddy" on Muslim attack sites, the very sites James White, Tom Ascol, and Debbie Kaufman have milked dry in an apparent attempt to smear the Caners. I remain nauseous in my soul over this.
Second, I have responded at length to James White's relentless attempt to make me out to be a deceptive liar, slanderer, and generally evil person. For the record, I normally do not often respond to critics who simply focus on one's character rather than the issue at hand. James White is an exception.
Why?
Two reasons.
First, White claims to be an apologist for the Christian faith. Second, James White routinely goes for the moral jugular in exchange. In other words, I am only one of many James White personally attacks moreso than dealing with the ideas of his critics.
As a way of demonstrating my observation, I am starting a new project entitled "James White On." If you will scan the right-hand column on this page, at the bottom you'll find a link to the site. This is an ongoing project, my first assignment of which is to respond at length to James White's most recent "rebuttal" of my last post. I intend to keep the site current as I can.
In all honesty, I do not need any more writing assignments. Nevertheless, I think it is crucial, especially for Southern Baptists, to inform them of James White's irresponsible "rebuttals" leveled toward his critics. For my part, I would be especially concerned if James White teaches again in either of our six seminaries in the future.
Have a great day.
With that, I am...
Peter
