A generation ago, stock broker E.F. Hutton made this little cliche a household proverb: When a first generation Conservative Resurgence leader talks, we ought to listen. Dr. Jerry Vines shares some thoroughly Christian sage on politics in the Southern Baptist Convention per his personal experience: "Fact is, in any deliberative body politics plays an imperative role. It just goes with the territory. So, how do you avoid the pettiness and ugliness that sometimes emerges? I tried to follow some basic principles. First, I affirmed the right of any person to... UPDATE: Several commenters have attempted to log "counter-points" to my responses to James White at James White On on this post's comment thread. Do not bother, please. Had I wanted to discuss my responses, I would have opened comments there. Know whether or not anyone thinks I posted adequate responses holds no interest to me. The responses I posted constitute my responses whether or not one or a hundred think the responses inadequate. These exchanges are between what James White wrote and my responses to James White. I have to... Read more →

In October, 2009, I happened to be a day ahead of some in naming Dr. Frank Page as the new Vice-President for Evangelism at the North American Mission Board (//link). I am not stating this as a way to “brag.” Actually, I’m but grateful our Lord has given me many friends in the Southern Baptist Convention. Once again the present guessing game will be over on another high-level appointment (//link). The Presidential Search Committee will soon officially announce their choice for our next President of the Southern Baptist Convention Executive... Read more →

My life has been in a whirlwind for several days. My oldest living brother passed away during Passion Week. Then my wife was hospitalized for several days pre/post an intense surgery she had scheduled. Consequently, it now appears we face several months where our "normal routine" is, shall we say, out the window. Know our closer circle was very much aware. Our church is continuing to minister and support us. Neither Kathy nor I have any discouraging complaints to offer our Lord. He is more gracious to us than ever... Read more →

I grabbed a few minutes to assemble my thoughts about the most recent fiasco with James White. My satire, "Spike & Little Chester," last drew White's blade against my throat (//link). Now slings his blade once again. Some query, "Why do you do this?" The same query was asked me in 2006 when I began to offer evidential sources against the Founders Ministries vision to "reform" the SBC one church at a time toward Five-Point Calvinism. Southern Baptists need more than ever to be informed concerning the aggressive, non-compromising efforts... Read more →

UPDATE: James White wasted no time firing off a you-sir-are-a-liar post on his blog (//link). As I expected, he implies I not only doctored the video, but also made him say things he didn't say. Frankly, it's possible I misunderstood what he intended to mean in his wording. Granted. But White's skewed logic has no such place for misinterpretation. Instead, it's "you, sir are a liar!" What's humorous is, in White's "correction" of my interpretation of his words, he inadvertently misquotes himself! But if White can't get White right, how... Read more →
