A tiny little blue bird went whizzing by me this morning, chirping the name of Ted Traylor as the nominee to Chair the presidential search committee for NAMB (//link). Dr. Traylor is a worthy guy.
He's done a great job at Olive Baptist Church in Pensacola, Florida (//link). He nominated Johnny Hunt to be president of the SBC in 2008. Some think he's a favorite nominee for the 2010 SBC in Orlando.
Let's see though. Dr. Traylor is on the Great Commission Resurgence Task Force.
Curiosity is going to be the death of me, I confess.
But here goes anyway:
If blue bird was correct, why would a member of the Great Commission Resurgence Task Force be asked to serve as Chair of the presidential search committee for NAMB? There were how many trustees from which to choose and Dr. Traylor is the one who surfaced?
I have to say things are getting a might too whacky.
At least from my point of view.
On the other hand, Dr. Floyd is probably jumping pews in his church. After all, he called for all presidential search committees to keep a watchful eye toward the GCRTF for guidance as they do their work (//link).
Now, however, the GCRTF can keep a watchful eye on the presidential search committee!
Sweet...
Southern Baptists do well to cautiously reserve their tacit approval on what's happening. An emboldened power-grab is jelling more quickly than many realize.

Peter,
I am honestly trying to not be synical, nor skeptical about all of this. But honestly, this all looks like things are going on behind closed doors that only a very certain few are privy to. It's all looking more and more suspicious everyday. What in the world is going on? What's this all about?
This is starting to make me think things that I do not want to think.
I am like you. I think that these men are all good fellas. They love the Lord, and they are very good pastors. But, what in the name of Lottie Moon is happening?
Can you shed more light on us? Can anyone shed more light on this?

Peter,
Good call on Frank Page. I assume your intel is equally as good here. I don't know why David Worley is surprised. Unfortunately, this is business as usual.
On Between the Times, Dr. Akin's answer to my question regarding why the secrecy is "It's simply necessary." Biz as usual.

I need to clarify that my comment was not meant to besmirch Frank Page. I have found Dr. Page to be a gentleman and a great supporter of small churches. He's one of the good guys.

Les,
Thanks. No problem. I did not view your comment negative toward Dr. Page.

So they are appointing a committee to study their Presidential choices. They add a committee so they can set the stage to form a committee to call a President.
And these men are going to cut the red tape and bureaucracy? They've already added a layer? And what is a Presidential Study Committee?

Tom,
Right on about the 'red tape'. Committees always add red tape, I think.
Now for the kicker: I've had this post up 25 hours. You, my brother, are the 1st to inquire of my embarrassing mistake. The committee is "Search" not "Study"!
Where were you yesterday?!!
I deeply apologize to all for the simple but glaring mistake. It's what I deserve, I suppose for being too quick to post.
And, I deeply thank you, Tom, for calling my attention to it.

I didn't really point out the mistake but I'll take the credit. :-)
In some ways that makes me feel much better that he is leadng the search team rather than a study team.
Pastor Traylor is a really good man. But I hate to see all the power for directing change within the convention to reside in a group (the GCRTF) that was selected for a completely different purpose.

Pastor Traylor is a trustee of NAMB, I would think that were he not a trustee, he wouldn't have been selected to helm the search committee.
Pastor Traylor has been my pastor for over 17 years now and he is nothing if not honest. I don't think that he has any ulterior motives going into the search for the new NAMB president.
I have heard him say that he will be glad to be off of the NAMB board when his term ends.

Chris,
Thanks. I surely have no reservations concerning what you say about your pastor. May our Lord continue to bless you through his ministry.
