I have on the sidebar, a Widget for the little site I created to keep up with Wade Burleson's promotion of his Censure as Trustee of the IMB. I started the site when Wade had written five full posts about his Censure, distracting from Lottie Moon International Missions Offering. Wade is up to seven posts. If you haven't clicked on it, you simply have to watch this. I suppose blogging is headed here in the future. Thanks to Joe Donahue for sending me the link to get the talking head.... Read more →

A few years ago, I preached a sermon series entitled "Has Anybody Seen The Will Of God? I've Misplaced It." This message, entitled "Six Keys to Understand the Will of God" was one within the series. Perhaps it may be helpful in some way to you. Grace. With that, I am... Peter Read more →

I found this article inspiring showing where some turn in times of despair. At the tender age of 15, Shawn Vickers was informed he had HIV. Being born with hemophilia, a genetic disorder that prevents blood clotting, Vickers had been treated with transfusions of clotting factor from blood donors >>> Unfortunately, sixteen years ago when Shawn was accepting blood transfusions, there were no systematic screenings for HIV contaminated blood. Hence, Shawn contracted the known killer through such blood. To make matters even more heartbreaking, he tested positive for hepatitis C,... Read more →

If you have read SBC Tomorrow at any length, you understand my personal position on Calvinism. While I am not anti-Calvinist, I certainly self-profess to be Non-Calvinist. The Canons of Dort do not define for me the Doctrines of Grace. Nor do I sport an Arminian label though friends and foes alike think that is precisely the theological umbrella under which I stand >>> Another thing I think most who read here will agree: we are willing to openly engage the various theological implications of both embracing and not embracing... I preached this message a few years back. It is a practical exposition of a sacred phrase our Lord uttered in His prayer to His Father in John 17: "Father, I have finished the work You have given Me to do." (17:4). I entitled it then: "Making Life Count". It's amazing how, when I occasionally listen to a message I preached several years ago, how, if I had it to do over, I'd go in a different direction or focus on another nuance of the text. Also, I am amazed... Read more →

The word is official--Wade Burleson, Trustee of the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention is officially censured. While I may offer a more sober commentary later, I thought the little flick below captures the moment. With that, I am... Peter Read more →

The following sermon I preached a couple of years ago. It reflects my deep conviction as I lament the frail, impotent, feel-good approaches employed by some today in their desperate attempt to 'make the Church relevant'. God's Church, as she employs her God-given power, will never cease to be relevant. *Update: Click here to subscribe to Podcast feed. It may be helpful. You may listen from your feed reader... "The Power of the Church" *Thanks to Jon, the file is now on my site. All should be able to listen...... Read more →

Have you ever had a spur of the moment idea that you figured was no big deal but when you sorta let it slip out, it turned out to be a barnburner? Well, that's precisely what happened to me yesterday morning when I posted Mitt Romney for President: And the Problem is? Being rushed to get to the office, I had only a few minutes to throw the thing together >>> I did a bit of look-see on Romney and wrote the piece quickly. To my amazement, a twister soon... I have not kept up with the debate on whether Mitt Romney is a good candidate for President of the United States. I know little about him other than the most basic biofacts. Born in Michigan only a few years before me, he is the son of Michigan Governor, George Romney >>> The Governor (R) was presidential candidate for the 1968 national election but was easily defeated despite his earlier front-runner status. It appears his reversal on the moral necessity of the Vietnam conflict buried his chances into oblivion. Before... Read more →
