In early spring of 1994, one of our Deacons came up to me after the evening service and said "I need to talk to you and Kathy immediately." My first thought--as is the case many times--was "Oh my. What'd she do?" Just kidding :^) Seriously, it was "I wonder what I did?"
When we arrived at the conference room, Marge was already there. This comforted me for Marge was a sweartheart of a lady and I knew we could all relax.
We sat down and Dick said "You know that Marge and I are planning a three week tour of the Holy Land this summer. We've been praying about it and we want you and Kathy to come with us as our guests."
Being honored that Marge and Dick were so kind as to make the invitation to us, I said "Dick, that really means a lot to me and I know it does Kathy too. And I could not think of a more enriching experience than to Walk Where He Walked. The truth is, there is absolutely no way we possess the kind of funds needed for such a trip."
Upon that, Dick gently interupted me and said "Brother Pete, I don't think you understand. Marge and I are inviting you as our guests. You will not need any money." Silence...And so, we went.
Though Hun will not be travelling with me this time, I'll leave Atlanta tomorrow--along with my Pastor, Todd Wright, and a couple of others--headed for Jerusalem. There we intend to scope out some direct mission opportunities with which our Church will partner.
Several mission-venue options have been floated. Our focus will be to sniff out that particular focus for which our Lord desires our Church to personally involve ourselves. Obviously, there will be a couple of days of just site seeing.
Pray for travelling mercies...for discernment in missionary liaison...for the small pockets of Baptist believers in Israel. Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem.
Grace. With that, I am...
Peter
P.S. If I can, I plan to upload onto SBCTomorrow daily pics and updates while I'm there.
Praise God, what an awesome opportunity. I wish I was going with you.
I will pray for you and your group daily while you are there.
I hope you run into God head-on.
Looking foward to lots of photos.....

Have a great trip! My wife and I were there in 2004 and we can't wait to go back.

Peter: I am envious to the bone but praising God you get to go and especially look forward to hearing about Baptist work there. What a wonderful place for which to partner in spreading the gospel. selahV

David,
Thanks for your prayers, David. Also, though I never responded to your very sober participation on the other thread, I do appreciate the sincere balance you attempted to project...
Les,
It is a life changing experience, is it not? The first impression I had when visiting the City in 94 was a profound awestruck aura that our Lord's birth, life, death and resurrection land was as recorded in the sacred Gospels...
SelahV,
Thank you, SelahV. Frankly, I never thought I'd go back but this opportunity presented itself. I dream one day of following the trail of the Apostle Paul on his missionary journeys. When Kathy & I went to Macedonia in 1998, we slipped over into Greece and was able to tour shortly ThessalonĂki, an incredibly moving time.
Grace all. With that, I am...
